  • Devil's advocate - (N) Someone who pretends, in an argument or discussion, to be against an idea or plan that a lot of people support, in order to make people discuss and consider it in more detail.
    EX) I was just playing devil's advocate.
  • Advocate - (V) to publicly support or suggest an idea, development, or way of doing STH.
  • Moderate - (ADJ) neither small nor large in size, amount, degree, or strength.
    EX) The cabin is of moderate size - just right for a small family.
    He's a moderate drinker. 
  • Moderator - (N) Someone who tries to help other people come to an agreement.
  • Sake - (N) in order to help or bring advantage to someone
    EX)  Their parents only stayed together for the sake of the children.
  • Recap - (V) To repeat the main points of an explanation or a description
    EX) Finally, the teacher recapped the main points of the lesson.
    To recap, our main aim is to increase sales by 15 percent this year.
  • Entrepreneur - (N) An individual who creates a new business, bearing most of the risks and enjoying most of the rewards.
    Someone who starts their own business, especially when this involves seeing a new opportunity.
  • Greed - (N) A very strong wish to continuously get more of STH, especially food or money.
    EX) I don't know why I'm eating more - it's not hunger, it's just greed!
  • pursue - (V) to follow SB or STH, usually to try to catch him, her, or it.
    EX) The car was pursued by helicopters.
    The hunters spent hours pursuing their prey.
  • Freedom - (N) The condition or right of being able or allowed to do, say, think, etc. Whatever you want to, without being controlled or limited.
    EX) I felt such a sense of freedom, up in the hills alone.
    In college, you have the freedom to do what you want.
  • Liberty - (N) the freedom to live as you wish or go where you want
    EX) For most citizens, liberty means the freedom to practice their religious or political beliefs.
    Hundreds of political prisoners will be given their liberty

We must separate the above two words. 

Liberty emphasizes the importance of individual rights and the limitations of government power, while freedom is more focused on the ability of individuals to pursue their own interests.Freedom is a more general concept that can be applied to a wide range of activities, from economic freedom to personal freedom.

  • Compelling - (ADJ) If a reason, argument, etc. is compelling, it makes you believe it or accept it because it is so strong.
  • Shed - (N) A small building, usually made of wood, used for storing things.
    (V) (often used in newspapers) to get rid of STH you do not need or want.
    EX) Psychotherapy helped him to shed some of his insecurity.
    (V) to lose a covering, such as leaves, hair, or skin, because it falls off naturally, or to drop STH in a natural way or by accident.
    (V) to allow tears or blood to flow.
  • Oppressive - (ADJ) cruel and unfair 
  • Cruel - (ADJ) extremely unkind and unpleasant and causing pain to people or animals intentionally.
  • Enshrine - (V) to contain or keep STH as if in a holy place.
  • Hinder - (V) to limit the ability of SB to do STH, or to limit the development of STH.
    EX) Hinder SB in STH High winds have hindered firefighters in their efforts to put out the blaze.
  • pursuit - (N, activity) an activity that you spend time doing, usually when you are not working.
    (N, following) the act of following SB or STH to try to catch him, her, or it.
    (N, attempt) the act of trying to achieve a plan, activity, or situation, usually over a long period of time.
